Churros

Servings per recipe:  20 servings

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 ¼ cups Just About Foods Organic All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 ½ tablespoon brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 medium size eggs, room temperature
  • 4 cups frying oil
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

PREPARATION METHOD:

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, brown sugar, salt and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, set aside.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, pour in the milk and butter and let it come to a boil. Remove from the heat, add into the liquids the dry mix and with a wooden paddle fold in the mix until homogeneous and fully integrated. Place the pan over low heat and mix vigorously until the dough leaves a thin film on the bottom of the pan, remove from the heat, and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Fold in one egg at a time to the cooled mixture until fully incorporated and no egg is seen. Scoop the dough into a piping bag with a star tip.
  4. In a heavy bottom pot over medium-low heat, heat the oil until it reaches 350°F. Pipe the dough making a circular motion over the oil using a chopstick to cut to your desired length. Fry until the bottom turns golden brown and flip them over using cooking tongs. Don’t over crowd the pot.
  5. When the churro is golden brown on both sides remove from the pot and put it on a cooking rack over kitchen paper and let it cool for a few minutes. While the churros are still warm to the touch toss them in a large bowl with the white sugar and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon. Serve warm and enjoy!
